After reading many many how-to business books and attending "leadership" lectures, I came with one simple question for which I could not find any answer What does it take to perform well under any circumstance based on your ability?
In 2012 and 2013, I came across two books that are important steps in answering this question.
The first one is called "the first 20 minutes" by Gretchen Reynolds.
Using data from sport research over the last decade or more, she demonstrates that ongoing steady exercise at an affordable dose (20 minutes) is key to great health.
The introduction set the tone for the entire book "It's become a truism to say that humankind was born to run, ... German researchers set out to study how human move ...[looking for efficiency]. But they found out that walking was more efficient [and better suited for caveman-like hunt]
The second is called "Choke" by Sian Beilock.
She tries to answer why some people will perform better under stress and others will not based on comparative knowledge. Or why people with great expertise have difficulty to pass on their knowledge. As well as the combined role of both sides of the brain in becoming creative etc...
Those two books added a dimension to my executive coaching service and help me to better tailored my support to executive.
In the world of "becoming a leader in 5 easy steps" I advise to take the time to read them.
For the record I have no association with either of the two authors who remain totally ignorant of my existence.
